John Bender – Pop Surgery

John Bender—Pop Surgery Well, judging by the number of downloads of the first John Bender album that I posted, I figured I would go ahead and post the other LP that I have. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything else by him… but if someone else does, please pass it on. I’d be more than happy to use my web-space and put it online if you’re in the sharing mood too…. Coming maybe next month… The Fruit of the Origina...

John Bender – Plaster Falling

Sealed in latex for your protection. This post represents the first installment of old out-of-print vinyl-to-mp3 downloads being put online. I figured that I would start with John Bender, because back when I had my list of mp3s online, he was one of the most requested artist. And who blames people for asking! The records have long been out of print and are fetching stupid prices that go well above $200 for a copy. I do sort of keep my eyes open f...

John Bender – I Don’t Remember Now

I Don’t Remember Now Ok. I know this breaks a lot of the rules in terms of “blogging etiquette” but I don’t really care. I got the mp3s posted here from two different sites, but for the sake of having three John Bender LPs in one location, I thought that I’d re-post them here. So, here’s John Bender’s “I Don’t Remember Now” thanks to Yarrost. 36a3 31a4 33a1 36a2 35b1 27b4 (Rainy Day Sun...

Reality Control? – Children of Terra

A couple of years ago (yes, years) I posted two Reality Control? compilations. Most people who know anything about Reality Control? know about the label that was run by John Lyons (by the way John, belated happy birthday!) but I’m not sure that too many know that there was also a band called Reality Control? and yes, John was in it for a while. (It was also the name of John’s super cool zine that he should digitize and post onlineR...

Attack of the white ants

...ow teeth. He introduces himself to me then starts to check out the problem. It’s not long before I get the idea that he is convinced about the need for the dismantling of most of the closets, but he still needs to call John—the owner—before he can give the Ok. This seems to irritate Mr. Potbellied even more, and now instead of just pacing back and forth, he’s also glaring with squinty eyes at Vijay on the phone trying to explain the s...

Reality Control? Compilations

After quite some time, I’ve decided to get around to taking some stuff off my minidiscs again, converting them to mp3s, and uploading some more music. This time, I’ve decided to revisit some of the cool stuff that John Lyons used to release. (John’s much too busy doing much cooler things these days, so he doesn’t spend time putting out cool records with nice hand-silk-screened covers and so on. I guess we can’t have ...

Baking@2657

..., we ate my mom’s awesome curry. After that, when we continued playing together, there were the molasses cookies that his mom used to make…. Good stuff…. …I can’t remember a musical meeting with John that didn’t involve some sort of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Lots of Cajun Kitchen, or Natural Cafe, or some burrito place, or some of Elizabeth’s good home-made meals. …and the kitchen at the 2657 Pro...

A flashback to 15 years ago….

...ng). Open publication Yes. This was really 15 years ago. That’s right—half-my-life-ago. The recording was made in December 1993 (Jeberrekenelle’s stuff was recorded at Brian’s house, recorded by John). The record was made shortly after that. The record was reviewed in HeartattaCk in issue 3, in August 2004. (The review was by Mike Ruehle, so it might have been a bit biased.) Anyway, thanks to Ryan for scanning the i...

Promoting people who don’t need promoting…

… but I’ve been enjoying this too much to not point it out for people who aren’t following what goes on in the Nine Inch Nails world. Reminds me of the kind of stuff that John would probably do…. Oh, and if anyone wants to buy me the $75 version available from Artists in Residence, my Indian bank account and I won’t argue…. ...
