This time, halfway around the world, in Chennai where the beautiful Amy is currently living and working. It’s an exciting prospect—I really enjoy getting a chance to live and work abroad—but I’ll be a lot more excited if I had a job lined up for me.
So far, I’ve been looking online for work. It’s hard enough doing that when you’re looking for a job here in the States. And India doesn’t really need ESL teachers seeing as English is one of their official languages….
I love working. I feel strange and a bit bored when I don’t have work (even though I have many hobbies to keep me occupied). I really hate job hunting though.
There’s something about selling myself that doesn’t quite work for me. I am really good at promoting open-source software, or telling you why Peoples’ Slef-Help Housing is a great non-profit for you to help fund. But when it comes to telling someone about my abilities, I tend to down-play my skills in moments of modesty.
I guess part of my modesty stems from the fact that many of my skills have been self-taught. I studied economics. This has nothing to do with web-design, graphic design, sound-recording and multimedia production. But, because of my vaired “hobbies,” I have learned a lot about all of those things and more. Even without the formal training, I would say that I am more than a “newbie” with the technologies involved.
I guess that’s why there are professional resume writers around. I’m sure that I’m not the only person who has a hard time “selling” themselves when they are looking for a job.
Anyway, I’m job hunting, again. Amy is in Chennai, India, and I am dying to join her there. I’m trying to get a job before I go, so that I’m not just leeching off her slim earnings, but, as usual, it’s quite an annoying process. Maybe one day, I will become more efficient at it…. I hope….
