Baking@2657

I’m not much of a Christmas person. I’ve never been particularly big on the day for several reasons, but there are also some things that I do like about it. Most of those things revolve around food—or more accurately—desserts.

This weekend was the cookie-making weekend. My mom and I started mid-morning, and went for several hours making batch after batch of cookies. We made two batches of greasy cookies, two batches of vanilla sugar cookies, and a couple of loaves of chocolate bread. It was good times….

So, I guess that was sort of a 2657 Production….

But really, the main reason that I filed this story under this category is that food is seriously a big part of my life—and not just in the sense of needing it for survival. I have so many connections with food that it blends into my experiences with my music history.

…there was the spring break that Sam stayed at my house to record the Rotten Metropolis #2 tape. During the day, we ate heavily modified Top Ramen noodle creations, and at night, we ate my mom’s awesome curry. After that, when we continued playing together, there were the molasses cookies that his mom used to make…. Good stuff….

…I can’t remember a musical meeting with John that didn’t involve some sort of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Lots of Cajun Kitchen, or Natural Cafe, or some burrito place, or some of Elizabeth’s good home-made meals.

…and the kitchen at the 2657 Productions house itself? That place is legendary. That kitchen is home to many conversations, and air-guitar experiences. Ben and I would create new acapella HUSK songs there and leave my mom, Axle, in hysterics…. We’d scare the cats or make them dance….

So, yesterday, while baking up a storm in that kitchen, I hooked up some speakers to my laptop and blasted some 2657 Productions tunes. It’s good to relive some of those memories, and it’s even better to know that there will be more in the making….
